We’ve seen many makeup artists break through the fashion industry with unique looks and ways they create magic with makeup but none have set the record straight as much as British star, Pat McGrath has. Over the last 30 years, Pat has completely dominated the beauty industry by creating outstanding looks for catwalking models, editorials for fashion magazines, and designers; which will be talked about for years to come.
Her love for makeup all started at home with her mother who showed her ways to experiment with makeup products. She would have her mix foundation and test out which product would make her look ashy or look great. Most of the 70s and 80s, you could rarely find makeup created for women with darker skin complexions so Pat was intrigued to learn makeup techniques with her mother for her skin tone
Looking forward, Pat has worked with Prada and Miu Miu as the makeup artist for their fashion shows, released a makeup collection with Giorgio Armani and even had an iconic partnership with John Galliano which led to her being the creative director for Dior in the early 2000s. Pat and John Galliano teamed up recently and went VIRAL during the Maison Margiela SS24 show which can be said as the “the return of fashion as an art form”. To match the scenery and vibe of the show, Pat painted the models with glass skin and turned them into glass porcelain dolls. Pat also uploaded behind the scene videos where you can see the process of the porcelain look as the models get airbrushed and with the makeup being peeled off the face. This makeup look caused a
lot of commotion (the good kind of course) and ended up on Tik Tok, where you can find many people all over the world trying to recreate the iconic look
Nowadays, you can still find Pat contributing innovative makeup looks for fashion shows and brands while using her very own high performance cosmetic brand, PAT MCGRATH LABS that she formulated back in 2015. PAT MCGRATH LABS celebrates diversity and inclusion with every product launch while pushing the boundaries of beauty more than any brand in the world. As she pushes boundaries, Pat never forgets to spread the importance of diversity and inclusion in the beauty and fashion industries. She’s called the Mother of makeup for a reason!lot of commotion (the good kind of course) and ended up on Tik Tok, where you can find many people all over the world trying to recreate the iconic look
