Advisor.: “What made you choose fashion, or did it choose you?”

Shakitah: “Fashion has always been around me being around my mom and her wardrobe. I also read a lot of magazines when I was younger. And always creating things with my hands.”

Advisor.: “What’s the gap you’re filling in the industry?”

Shakitah: “Baby and children’s footwear, luxury sandals.”

Advisor.: “How does your identity influence your work?”

Shakitah: “Living in a tropical environment in Miami where image is everything. Footwear has been a key part in my wardrobe when I was growing up and going to school. I try to think about what styles I haven’t seen in sandals and what my children would want to wear.”

Advisor.: “What’s a recent moment that reminded you, “I’m built for this”?”

Shakitah: “When my children enjoy trying out my sandals and anticipate the next pair.”

Advisor.: “What do you want people to feel when they experience your brand or creative work?”

Shakitah: “Like their feet are happier and feel special and luxurious.”

Advisor.: “What’s been the hardest lesson so far, and what did it teach you about yourself?”

Shakitah: “Persistence and consistency. Having a family and a full time job doesn’t give me all the time for designing and creating. Putting together a brand aesthetic takes effort and giving myself time and allotting time for that process has been difficult however I have to learn and accept that as my journey at this point of the brand.”

Advisor.: “What are you claiming next?”

Shakitah: “Startup investors”

Advisor.: “Advisor. is all about building a new legacy in Black fashion. What legacy do you want to leave?”

Shakitah: “Being a brand that contributed to the childrens luxury market.”
