However, several fashion incubators and accelerators took it upon themselves to acknowledge racial equity. Below are five accelerators that have changed the fashion industry for good.

African Fashion Foundation
African Fashion Foundation was founded by Roberta Annan, a Ghanaian businesswoman, and philanthropist, to provide help to creatives to rise higher in the fashion industry by providing professional and educational aid. They have demonstrated their support by launching initiatives such as scholarships to the Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design amongst others. They have helped many creatives across fashion, including business, creative, and media.

The Black Fashion Accelerator by AFROPUNK
The Black Fashion Accelerator was established by Shopify, an e-commerce website, and Afropunk, an annual arts and music festival, wherein they pair nine fashion designers with mentors to accelerate the sustainable and profitable development of their brands over six months.
R.O.O.M
R.O.O.M (representation, organization, opportunity, mentoring) was initiated by Kenya Hunt, Elle UK’s Editor-in-Chief, to provide a platform to BIPOC creatives within the Black Fashion industry. Along with her advisory council which includes Bethann Hardison, ROOM has given young professionals much-needed guidance and connected various students with brands such as Elle, Vogue, i-D, and many others.

Seed Ambition
Seed Ambition was started by Andrea Iyamah, a Nigerian Fashion Designer, to provide resources such as partnerships, financial aid, networking, and education to all creatives. Being an entrepreneur with more than a decade of experience, Andrea Iyamah also provides a virtual masterclass, ‘The Cutting Room: Building A Brand Message’ wherein she teaches the lessons she has learned being a part of the African fashion industry.

Birimian Ventures was the first operational investment company established to aid upcoming African Brands by providing them with financial, networking, and strategic aid. They have helped brands such as Ivory Coast’s Kente Gentlemen, South Africa’s Rich Mnisi, and Ghana’s Christie Brown amongst others.
